Greetings everyone,
Some time ago I was approached by a group of keen carom players representing their club at Strathfield (NSW), wishing to join with the Billiards & Snooker Association of NSW (B&SA NSW) with a view to turning what is a recreational interest into a representative sport.
Unfortunately, this was not possible due to restrictions placed on the B&SA NSW through the Constitutions of the Australian Billiards & Snooker Council (ABSC) and the International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF).
Not wanting to be deterred by this, and recognizing the opportunity presented to create a governing body for this important third element of cue sports in Australia, we decided to proceed with the establishment of a new Association.
As there was no Australian governing body for Carom we decided to create it. Despite our initial interest being in the Sydney area, it is hoped that the small group who have volunteered to making up the initial Committee will be joined by others to grow the Association, membership base and representation to all of Australia. None on the committee are defensive of their positions and we welcome the involvement of anyone with more experience and skill in particular areas to help the sport grow and prosper.
The initial sporting event planned will be the Sydney 3 Cushion Carom Championship. We hope to have further details before year end. We will also be issuing a membership form and will pass this on as soon as our bank account is in place.
We ask for your support of this fledgling Association. Carom is very popular amongst the Korean and Vietnamese communities in Australia, however I’m sure there are others that may come forward to express interest. Please help us out by circulating this email to your members and by making some mention of the development on you web-site.
