Joe Minici created NSW Snooker and Billiard history by winning the 2013 NSW Masters Snooker Championship held at Club Marconi 9th 10th March.
Joe now holds all 3 individual state titles -NSW Snooker Champion- NSW Billiards Champion and now NSW Masters Snooker Champion a feat never achieved before.
A strong field of 30 players contested the preliminary round robin Stage with all seeded players proceeding to the knockout stage. Many high breaks featured in the round robin format with Terry Emmett knocking in the tournament highest break of 90.
Coming out of the round robin format the 2012 World Masters Runner up Glen Wilkinson obtained the number 1 seed, Paul Balzer was the second seed and the surprise packet of the weekend Port Macquarie’s Michael Cosh was seeded 3 going into the Knockout stage of the tournament.
The knockout stage saw some fantastic close battles with number 4 seed Roger Farebrother winning the deciding frame against David Waller. Roger would however fall short being defeated 3 nil by Glen Wilkinson in the Semi final.
In the other half of the draw Joe Minici made light work of Paul Balzer winning 3 0 and setting up a semi final match with Michael Cosh. This semi final match was the highlight of the tournament attracting a great enthusiastic crowd as both players put on a great display of attacking snooker with the game decided by the final black ball. Both players had their chances but it was Joe who held his nerves and made the decisive pot.
The final between Joe and Glen produced yet another cracker coming down to a deciding frame after being 3 all. The final frame was decided on the colours after both players could not capitalise on promising breaks.
